Soft Era – Exhibition

Nguyen Minh Duc

Each of us is a unique individual, however not everyone understands, loves and appreciates themselves. Sometimes we feel lost in the maze of the world because of society’s limitations: not being strong or assertive enough, or not being soft and tolerant enough.

Songs of Singularity – Exhibition

Guest Curator: Trong Gia Nguyen

Galerie Quynh is pleased to present Songs of Singularity – an exhibition of new work by Brussels-based artist Trong Gia Nguyen. For his third solo exhibition at the gallery, Nguyen will exhibit four distinct, but connected bodies of work that foreground ideas of conservation, accessibility, reproduction, and attribution of artworks.

The old philosophical experiment query “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” has been transposed in Nguyen’s latest show into something more akin to “does a person truly exist when all material evidence of their existence has vanished?” or, as stated by the artist, “There is a tenuous relationship with the past if no objects survived that past apart from you.”

Walking through a songline – Exhibition

Guest Curator: Various Artist

The exhibition entitled “Walking through a Songline” is presently underway in Saigon, and will continue in Hanoi at the end of this month. This event is being co-organized by the Australian National Museum and Mosster Studio, in commemoration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam.

Their odyssey is embodied in the concept of the “songline”, which serves as the exhibition’s overarching theme, also known as “dreamtime journeys”. These dreamtime journeys were pivotal in shaping the adventures of exploration and the creation of the land and its people in Australia.

Thị – Her Exhibition

Guest Curator: Phan Linh Bao Hanh

Being a professional art practitioner since 2007, female painter Bao Hanh works on diverse topics varying from landscape, still-life, animal to people; from Kinh girl (Vietnamese main ethnicity) to Cham, Khmer, Hmong, and Bana who belong to the minority. However, the image of the “thị” seems to always attract attention and is somewhat more prominent than the rest. This figure of choice has created a personal identity whenever the name Bao Hanh is mentioned.

It can be said that Hanh paintings featuring women have sustainably attached to Primitivism. With this style, she mainly focuses on depicting the contrast between the stationary state of the character’s body movement and the vivid glittering eyes – like a window to their constantly moving inner selves. It is the hidden sorrow in a tender look, a determined look, a look that divulges the utmost pride, or a pure eagerness for new things. These nuances of the eyes seem to silently address the viewers so that they somehow feel connected with Hanh’s female figures whose characteristics might seem complex.
